  1. Rinse the lentils till the water runs clear. Add the washed lentils to a pot along with the water, turmeric, and salt.
  2. Give it a good stir and bring the mixture to a boil. Lower the heat, put a lid, and let it simmer for about 20 minutes or till the lentils are cooked through. Lentils will be nice and mushy once cooked.
  3. Heat up a small pan and then add ghee. Let Ghee get to a smoking point and add cumin seeds. Once the cumin seeds have stopped sputtering, then add the garlic and chili powder. Fry the spices for about 30 seconds. Make sure to keep stirring the spices, otherwise, they will burn.
  4. Add the spice mixture to the dal and give a good stir. Let it simmer for about 5 minutes, at this point you could add a bit more hot water if the Dal is too thick. Taste for salt and add if needed.
  5. Serve Simple garlicy Dal with some rice and enjoy.
